Late Flight After a Vancouver Cruise? Here’s What We Did for 15 Hours
What do you do when your Vancouver cruise ends around 8:00 AM... but your flight home doesn’t leave until 11:00 PM? That was exactly our situation after getting off Celebrity Solstice at Canada Place. Instead of heading straight to Vancouver International Airport and spending the entire day waiting, we decided to turn our disembarkation day into one more day of vacation. But first, we had to figure out the biggest problem: what do you do with all your luggage? Our solution eventually involved booking a $526 room at the Fairmont Waterfront through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts — even though we weren’t staying overnight. It sounded a little ridiculous at first. In this video, we’ll show you: • What we did with our luggage after leaving the cruise ship • Why we booked the Fairmont Waterfront for just part of the day • What the hotel actually cost us after our American Express Platinum benefits • Our Fairmont Waterfront harbor-view room • Breakfast at the Fairmont • How we spent the day at Granville Island • Our ferry ride across Vancouver • Lee’s Donuts — and Rob’s unexpected encounter with a very aggressive seagull • The FIFA World Cup atmosphere around Vancouver • Granville Street during the World Cup celebrations • Dinner at Cactus Club Coal Harbour • Why having a hotel room for a pre-flight nap became one of the best parts of the plan • What our Uber to YVR cost • And whether we would do all of this again If you have a late flight after an Alaska cruise ending in Vancouver, this video should help you decide whether to head straight to the airport, store your luggage, or spend one more day exploring the city. And yes... Rob did go back and buy another donut. If you’re cruising FROM Vancouver, be sure to watch our Vancouver before-the-cruise guide as well. Thanks for traveling with us!
