Marella Discovery Cruise Review: Discover Iberia - September 2025: https://youtu.be/03gyqqkW0vc . Marella Discovery is a mid-sized cruise ship operated by Marella Cruises, part of the TUI Group. Originally built in 1995, the ship previously sailed under different names before joining the Marella fleet and undergoing refurbishment to suit the brand’s style and facilities. It has a gross tonnage of just over 70,000 and carries approximately 1,800 passengers, with a crew of around 750, giving it a relatively balanced passenger-to-crew ratio. The ship is designed with a traditional cruise layout, featuring a central atrium that connects several decks and acts as a hub for passenger movement. Accommodation on Marella Discovery includes a range of cabin types, from inside and oceanview cabins to balconies and suites. Cabins are distributed across multiple decks and are equipped with standard cruise amenities such as en-suite bathrooms, storage space, air conditioning, and entertainment systems. Public areas are spread across the ship to avoid congestion, with indoor and outdoor spaces available. Dining options include main dining rooms, buffet-style venues, and several speciality restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. Meal times are typically structured but allow some flexibility, which suits passengers following shore excursion schedules. Bars and lounges are located throughout the ship, including quieter lounges and more lively evening venues. Marella Discovery offers a variety of onboard entertainment and facilities aimed at a broad passenger profile. These include a theatre for live shows, a cinema, and multiple lounges hosting music or activities. There is also a spa and fitness centre, along with swimming pools and sun decks. Sports courts and activity areas provide additional options for passengers who prefer active pursuits. For families, the ship includes dedicated children’s and teenagers’ clubs, with supervised activities scheduled throughout the day. Educational and enrichment programmes, such as talks or demonstrations, are often offered, particularly on sea days. Shopping areas onboard sell cruise essentials, clothing, and souvenirs, while photography services document key moments of the voyage. One of the ship’s distinguishing features is its glass-walled atrium and indoor pool area, which allows passengers to enjoy swimming regardless of weather conditions. The ship also has a promenade deck that is suitable for walking and offers sea views, making it popular with passengers who enjoy time outdoors. Operationally, Marella Discovery sails a range of itineraries, often focusing on the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Northern Europe depending on the season. Its size allows it to visit a mix of large ports and smaller destinations that may be less accessible to newer, larger vessels. For cruise ship passengers, Marella Discovery provides a straightforward cruising experience with familiar facilities, manageable ship size, and a layout that makes it easy to navigate during both short and longer voyages.
