Tui Flight TOM2351 Take-off from Palma Airport, Mallorca, Spain - 16 September, 2025: https://youtu.be/ydiH02o2Ios . Palma Airport, officially known as Palma de Mallorca Airport or Son Sant Joan Airport, is the main international gateway to the island of Mallorca in Spain’s Balearic Islands. It is located approximately 8 kilometres east of Palma city centre and around 10 kilometres from the Port of Palma, making it a key transport hub for cruise ship passengers beginning or ending their voyages in the western Mediterranean. The airport is one of Spain’s busiest, particularly during the summer season, when passenger numbers increase significantly due to tourism. The airport has a single terminal building divided into four modules, labelled A, B, C, and D, which are connected by a central arrivals and departures area. This layout allows passengers to move between check-in, security, arrivals, and baggage reclaim in a relatively compact space. Facilities include passport control for non-Schengen flights, customs, and a wide range of passenger services such as restrooms, seating areas, and information desks. For cruise passengers, Palma Airport is often used as a turnaround airport. Transfers between the airport and cruise terminal are typically handled by coach, taxi, or pre-arranged private transport. Travel time between the airport and the port generally ranges from 15 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxi ranks are located outside the arrivals area, and licensed taxis operate on a metered system. Public transport, including bus services, also connects the airport with Palma city, though this may be less practical for passengers with luggage. Palma Airport offers standard services expected at a major international airport. These include cafés, restaurants, and duty-free shopping located both before and after security. Retail outlets sell travel essentials, food, clothing, and souvenirs. Currency exchange services, ATMs, and car rental desks are available in the arrivals hall. The airport also provides assistance services for passengers with reduced mobility, which can be arranged in advance through airlines or cruise operators. Security and passport control procedures follow Spanish and European Union regulations. During peak travel periods, queues can be longer, particularly for flights departing outside the Schengen Area. Cruise passengers transferring between ship and flight are advised to allow sufficient time for check-in and security screening, especially when travelling during summer months or on weekends. The airport is well signposted, with information displayed in multiple languages, reflecting its international passenger base. Flight connections link Mallorca to numerous destinations across Europe, including major cities in the UK, Germany, Spain, and Scandinavia. Seasonal routes expand during the cruise season, making Palma Airport a practical embarkation and disembarkation point for cruise itineraries. Overall, Palma Airport functions as an efficient and well-established transport hub for cruise ship passengers. Its proximity to the Port of Palma, range of facilities, and extensive European flight network make it an important part of the island’s cruise infrastructure, supporting both short stays and longer Mediterranean cruise itineraries.
