Why We Deleted ChatGPT: The Travel Mistake That ALMOST Ruined Our China Trip
Artificial intelligence is an incredible tool for mapping out complex travel routes—until it confidently hallucinates and tries to derail your trip! On our first overland trip into China, we used AI to design our rail itinerary based on strict criteria: cities that matched our travel style, seamless high-speed train connections, and no train day longer than 6 hours. For the most part, it did a fantastic job selecting our stops. Then came our final prep in Hanoi, just days before crossing the border. When we reviewed our plans to walk across the border from Lao Cai to Hekou using Canada's 30-day visa-free entry, ChatGPT went completely sideways. It didn't just get the details wrong—it aggressively insisted on an incorrect course of action that could have ruined our entry. We are Andrea & Keith - retired GenX Canadians who are slow-travelling the world without flying. Join us on our journey and share in our adventure! In this video, we break down the difference between an AI making a factual error versus insisting on a hallucination, why we deleted ChatGPT from our travel routine, how we leverage Gemini and Claude today, and our strict rules for verifying sources on the road. 🔔 We explore the world entirely overland because we do not fly—ever, full stop!
