The No Fly Zone Nomads are heading back into China! Having just wrapped up our time in Vietnam, we are taking on our second overland border crossing on foot. Last time we crossed, an AI hallucination gave us a bit of a scare, but this time we arrived fully prepared with translated documents for a smooth, visa-free walk into China. In this new series, we’re sharing our entire overland journey from Hanoi all the way to Shanghai (where we catch our cruise ship to Japan). We used AI to help us select our five stops based on some strict No Fly Zone rules: every city had to be on the high-speed rail network, train rides had to be under 5.5 hours, and we needed to build in a border run to Hong Kong. In this first episode, we walk you through hiring a car from Hanoi, catching the buggy to the Vietnamese border at Friendship Pass, crossing on foot into Chinese immigration, and making our way to the train station for the high-speed ride to Nanning.
