14 Cruise Ports Where You Don’t Need a Shore Excursion (I’ve Been to All of Them)
Wondering which cruise ports you can explore without booking a cruise line shore excursion? I’ve been on more than 25 cruises, and these are 14 ports where I’d consider making my own plans. I’m sharing what my family actually did in Visby, Guernsey, Bermuda, Stockholm, Stavanger, Victoria, Barcelona, Nassau, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Warnemünde, Edinburgh, Port Canaveral, and Tromsø. In a few of these ports, I paid for a cruise shore excursion and realized afterward that I would have preferred exploring independently. Some of these cruise destinations are easy to enjoy on foot. For others, we used a taxi, ferry, or shuttle. A lot of the same money-saving ideas apply across major cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and Princess Cruises.
