We Skipped the Transfer After Queen Mary 2—And Took the Train to Gatwick
Getting from Southampton to Gatwick after a Queen Mary 2 cruise sounded simple enough — but instead of taking a transfer, we decided to do it by train. We had just disembarked Queen Mary 2 in Southampton and needed to make our way to Gatwick Airport for our flight to Copenhagen. That meant figuring out the trains, platforms, changes, elevators and stations while making sure we actually made it to the airport on time. And getting to Gatwick was only the beginning. The airport was packed, our lounge was even more crowded, and after getting a little too comfortable we suddenly found ourselves watching the clock as we made our way to one of the farthest gates. Then came Copenhagen — nearly an hour at passport control, absolute madness at baggage claim, another train into the city and yet another walk to our hotel. By the time we finally arrived, it had turned into a 12-hour travel day involving more trains, escalators, elevators and airport lines than we could count.
