How Cruise Ships Leave Amsterdam 🚢 | Passing Through the North Sea Locks
Ever wondered how a large cruise ship leaves Amsterdam and reaches the North Sea? Before beginning our 11-night Baltic and Scandinavian cruise aboard Celebrity Eclipse, we passed through one of the massive lock systems that connects Amsterdam's waterways to the North Sea. As we entered the lock, another vessel was carefully guided in by a tugboat. Once both ships were secured, the lock gates closed, the water level changed, and eventually the gates on the opposite side opened, allowing us to continue our journey toward Oslo, Norway, our first port of call. Watching this engineering marvel from our sunset balcony was a fascinating way to begin our cruise.
