Rome Tours What We’d Book Again — And What We Wouldn’t
Planning tours in Rome, Italy? Which guided tours are worth your money—and which would we think twice about booking again? Nancy and I spent four very busy days in Rome experiencing several different guided tours, excursions and car services. In this video, we share what worked, what didn't, and what we learned after spending our own money and vacation time on tours of some of Rome's most famous sights. Our experiences included: • The Vatican Museums • The Sistine Chapel • St. Peter's Basilica • The Colosseum • The Roman Forum • Palatine Hill • Pompeii • Private car and transfer services • Tours booked through Viator • Tours booked directly with LIV Tours Some of these experiences were excellent. Others taught us a few lessons about what we would—and wouldn't—book again. SAILING DISNEY CRUISE LINE FROM OR TO ROME? Rome can also play an important role in a Disney Cruise Line Mediterranean vacation. Disney Cruise Line uses Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy as a departure port, arrival/debarkation port, and port of call on select European and Mediterranean itineraries. Civitavecchia is the cruise gateway to Rome, so deciding how to experience the city can be an important part of planning a DCL Mediterranean cruise. Disney Cruise Line also offers numerous Port Adventures from Civitavecchia, including experiences visiting Rome and its famous sights, as well as options for guests who prefer to explore Rome more independently. We did NOT experience the tours reviewed in this video through Disney Cruise Line. We booked them independently during our own visit to Rome. But what we learned may help DCL guests decide what kind of tour or excursion they want to book before or after their cruise—or during a day in port. One of the biggest things we learned is that guided tours and private transportation can be very hit or miss. The company, guide, itinerary, group size and amount of time available can make an enormous difference. Our goal with this video isn't to tell you there's one perfect way to see Rome. It's to share our first-hand experiences so you can make a better decision about how to spend your own limited vacation time.
