Two cruises on the same ship, the second leaving the day the first gets back. You stay on board, usually in the same cabin. Almost every round trip can be booked back to back, and the most common is two seven-night cruises. The longest round trip on sale is 12 nights, so two weeks from your home port usually means two legs. WHAT MOVES THE PRICE: the same seven-night Oasis of the Seas trip from Cape Liberty costs $1,596 leaving 1 August 2027 and $797 in late October. On a typical trip the priciest date costs about 40% more than the cheapest. Christmas cost more than the same ship, port and length in January 42 times out of 42, usually about 80% more. A balcony adds about $47 a night, taxes and port fees are about a fifth of the price, and 6 in 10 sailings got more expensive as departure got close (8 in 10 balconies). THE BEST HOME PORTS: Port Canaveral has the most back-to-backs (425), then Fort Lauderdale (388) and Miami (383). The cheapest is San Diego, about $88 a night for a typical one. Tampa has 272 at about $104 a night. The single cheapest: 15 nights on Voyager of the Seas from Los Angeles for $548 a person. THE LONGEST BACK-TO-BACKS: Star of the Seas sails a seven-night trip from Port Canaveral every week, 81 in a row, 567 nights. Utopia of the Seas runs 159 short trips in a row. WHAT YOU PAY TWICE FOR: taxes and port fees (about $320 a person on two seven-night legs), drinks packages and onboard credit go by the sailing. Gratuities, loyalty points and port parking go by the day or night. And you only fly once. TURNAROUND DAY: a letter the night before, a meeting point, a quick safety drill again, and a quiet ship for a few hours. STACKING CASINO OFFERS: one offer per leg, and the order matters on about 1 back-to-back in 9 (example: the same two offers, $518.40 apart). Offers don't cover taxes or gratuities. THE CHEAPEST MONTHS: January is the cheapest month to start a back-to-back (about $113 a night), July the priciest (about $183). From Florida, a 14-night back-to-back for a couple is about $3,734 in January and $5,879 in July. Christmas week costs the most of all. How many ducks did you count? Tell me in the comments.
