I Sang TLC at Iceland’s Most Remote Waterfall — And I’d Do It Again | Dynjandi, Westfjords

There’s a TLC song that tells you not to chase waterfalls. Today I’m going to tell you exactly why I ignored that advice — and why you might want to as well. Today is International Waterfall Day — and I happen to be in Iceland’s Westfjords, standing in front of one of the most extraordinary waterfalls I’ve ever seen. This is Dynjandi. It’s not one waterfall — it’s seven. Seven cascading tiers tumbling down the mountainside, each one bigger than the last, building toward a main drop that simply doesn’t fit in a frame. You hear it before you see it. You feel the mist before you’re close enough to photograph it. And when you finally arrive, you just… stop. I’ve had that feeling before. Standing on the deck of Lindblad’s National Geographic Endurance in Antarctica, in near-silence, surrounded by ice and light. There’s something specific that happens in truly remote places — your nervous system settles, your mind goes quiet, and you become completely present in a way that everyday life rarely allows. That’s what I call Return on Life. And Dynjandi delivered it in full. Now — the Westfjords are not easy to reach. They’re not on Iceland’s famous Ring Road. There are no tour buses pulling up. Getting here takes intention, planning, and the right operator. I was travelling with Aurora Expeditions as part of ACTA’s Immersive Expedition Cruise program, and I want to talk a bit about what that experience looked like and why expedition travel like this is genuinely different from any other kind of journey. What I want you to notice as you watch this footage is the sequence of it. You don’t just arrive at Dynjandi. You walk toward it — passing smaller falls, each one impressive enough to be a destination on its own — until you reach the main cascade. It rewards the walk. It rewards the effort of getting to the Westfjords at all. That structure — the build, the anticipation, the payoff — is actually a really good metaphor for expedition travel itself. And yes — I did sing TLC’s “Waterfalls” when I got there. My Meta glasses caught it. You can watch that at the end of this video, and I will not be apologizing for it. 🎶 If Iceland has been on your list — and particularly if you’ve been wondering whether the Westfjords are worth the extra effort — the answer is yes. Unequivocally yes. If you’d like to talk through what an Iceland expedition actually looks like, what operators I recommend, and how to plan it so you’re not just hitting the highlights everyone else sees — I’d love that conversation. Go chase one. ❤️🇮🇸 📩 sheila@lushlife.ca | www.lushlife.ca Subscribe for more expedition travel, river cruising, and honest advice from someone who’s actually been there.
