Whitsundays to Cairns, a Shakedown Cruise - July 1976
We sail down to the Whitsundays, then north to Cairns in a shakedown trip to check our yacht's systems prior to heading off into Melanesia in an extended 15 month cruise. We spent 18 months in Townsville working to save for our next cruising adventure, at the same time exploring the coast from Townsville both up north and down south. Then it was time to start cruising again, but first a couple of months sailing the North Queensland coast to test out some of the modified systems on Dreamtime. First we travelled back down again to the Whitsunday Islands to meet up with Sue's parents and show them around the islands again. Then north back to Townsville briefly and on north to Cairns. In the following video we explore north to Lizard Island, returning to Cairns to sort out Customs, and depart for Papua New Guinea - The next series. A new version with voice commentary and optional English captions that can be auto-translated Remember that all photos and movie content are digitised from 50 year old 35mm slide film and 8mm Super 8 movie film.
