Welcome to Episode 6 of our Marella Discovery 2 – Highlights of the Med Cruise series! Today we’re heading ashore in Sanremo via tender boat, enjoying a gorgeous tender ride, exploring beautiful botanical gardens, spotting wildlife, relaxing by the pool, and ending the night with a lively deck party (and a slightly dramatic moment…). We kick off the morning at The Glass House, our favourite quiet breakfast spot onboard. With quick service and plenty of choice, it’s the perfect way to start a sea day. After breakfast, we head out on deck to soak up the sunshine — we’ve been spoilt with incredible weather throughout this cruise. Soon, it’s time for our tender ride into Sanremo. We absolutely love taking a tender — it’s fun, breezy, and gives you a brilliant close‑up view of Marella Discovery 2 basking under the Italian sun. The ride takes around 15 minutes before we arrive in the harbour. Our first stop is the Nobel Gardens, named after their proximity to Alfred Nobel’s former home. With tall tropical trees and a beautiful fountain, it’s a peaceful place to wander. From here, we make our way into the Villa Ormond Botanical Gardens, admiring statues, tropical plants, and the stunning grounds surrounding Villa Ormond — originally built in 1890 and now home to the International Institute of Humanitarian Law. Drawn in by the sound of running water, we discover a waterfall… and then spot a turtle. Then another. Then loads of them! How did we miss these before? After a refreshing drink and a paddle in the water, we stroll back towards the harbour, spotting a wall lizard, fancy yachts, and even a Lamborghini along the way. After a lovely day exploring Sanremo, it’s time to head back to the ship. Back onboard and feeling peckish, we head straight to The Snack Shack — our favourite spot for poolside light bites. Afterwards, we cool off in the Glass House pool, which feels absolutely blissful after a day in the Italian heat. Even Gavin dips his toes in! At 4pm, Marella Discovery 2 weighs anchor and departs Sanremo. We enjoy the sail away before returning to the pool and hot tub for a relaxing unwind. Later, we get changed for the evening and head to the BBQ & Deck Party on the main pool deck. There’s a fantastic selection of food — burgers, hot dogs, grilled meats, corn on the cob, salads — and everything tastes delicious. Then… it’s party time! The deck party is loads of fun, and I’m having a right hoot — until a slightly risky twirl goes wrong. I slip, smack my head, and end up being wheeled back to the cabin in a wheelchair. Luke doesn’t do blood, so that was… interesting. With that, we call it a night!
