Join us for the Lagoon Discovery & Snorkel Tour in Papeete, French Polynesia, during our 2026 transpacific cruise on the Carnival Luminosa! This shore excursion (or should I say sea excursion) was a highlight of our time in French Polynesia. We were lucky enough to have incredible close-up encounters with Spinner dolphins before heading out to a beautiful reef for some snorkelling. The first snorkel site was deep and included sunken boats and an aeroplane. The second site was shallow, and although the coral was not fantastic in either spot, there were plenty of nice fish to film. On the way back, it started to rain, and we were soaking wet, so we went back to the ship to shower, put on dry clothes and have some lunch before heading out again to brave the 100% humidity and explore the town of Papeete. We visited lots of souvenir shops (as you do) and enjoyed the local French language signs and flavour. After a few hours, the humidity got to us eventually, so we decided to head back to the ship and the comfort of the air conditioner. At the pier, we spotted a very unusual ship in the harbour—the Aranui 5 - half cruise ship, half cargo! Oh, and I forgot, next to the carnival Luminosa was a Superyacht, the Octopus. The 126-meter (414 ft) explorer superyacht is owned by the Swedish pharmaceutical billionaire and founder of SHL Group, Roger Samuelsson. He purchased the vessel in 2021 following the passing of its original owner, late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
