And when that happens, there’s one detail that shocks most passengers… Lifeboats don’t always work when a ship is listing. In this video, I break down viral cruise ship listing footage from real storms and emergencies, explaining what’s normal, what’s dangerous, and what actually happens onboard when a cruise ship tilts. Using real clips and my experience working at sea, I explain: -Why cruise ships list in heavy weather -How stabilisers really work (and their limits) -The difference between mild listing and dangerous listing -Why lifeboats can’t be launched safely at certain angles -What happens inside the ship when things start sliding and falling -And when a list becomes a genuine emergency Most cruise ship lists are brief and not dangerous but, when things do go wrong, they happen fast. Understanding why can actually make cruising feel safer, not scarier. If you’ve ever experienced a ship listing, or seen one of these moments firsthand, I’d love to hear your story in the comments.
