Things I Wish I Knew Before Working on Cruise Ships
Hey sailors, If you’re thinking about working on a cruise ship, there are so many little things nobody really explains before your first contract. In this video, I’m sharing some of the things I genuinely wish I had known before I started working at sea — especially when it comes to money, payroll accounts and getting reimbursed for the costs involved in joining a ship. I talk about cruise ship payroll accounts like Brightwell, OceanPay and MyCrewWallet, why I personally wouldn’t keep all of my savings in them, and why it’s so important to have your own bank account set up before you join. I also talk about reimbursements, because depending on your cruise line, recruitment agency or company, you may be able to claim money back for things like: Medical examinations STCW training Flights Visas Hotels Transport Food while travelling But the biggest lesson is this: KEEP EVERY RECEIPT. I learned that one the hard way on my first contract, and I don’t want you making the same mistake.
