I hate to say it, but the Road to Hana isn’t a must-do for every Maui traveler
The Road to Hana is beautiful, but I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone. If you’re staying on Maui for less than 5 days, I’d seriously think twice before using one of your full vacation days for this drive. Here are a few things to consider: 1. It’s a full-day experience. There are waterfalls, beaches, hikes, and scenic stops, but the drive takes up a big part of the day. 2. Your vehicle matters. If you’re self-driving without an open-air vehicle, you may miss some of what makes the journey special. A convertible, Jeep with the top off, or guided tour can make a difference. 3. You have to love the journey. This isn’t just about reaching Hana. You need to enjoy winding roads, nature, slower travel, and spending most of the day exploring. 4. A tour may be a better option. If you don’t want to drive, a guided tour lets you relax, enjoy the scenery, and leave the driving to someone else. Before adding the Road to Hana to your itinerary, ask yourself: Do you love long scenic drives and being surrounded by nature, or would you rather spend your limited Maui days relaxing at the beach or other experiences?
