Falkland Islands | If You Love Penguins, This Is the Place to Visit
If you love penguins, the Falkland Islands need to be on your list. Known in Argentina as the Islas Malvinas, this remote archipelago is home to five breeding penguin species, gentoo, king, rockhopper, magellanic and macaroni, with around one million penguins nesting here every summer. The Falklands hold the title of the largest gentoo penguin population in the world, with colonies easily reached just outside Stanley at spots like Gypsy Cove and Bluff Cove Lagoon. Rockhoppers are the most numerous species overall, while king penguins can be found at colonies such as Volunteer Point, alongside the more elusive macaroni, often spotted hiding among rockhopper groups.
