Carnival's First Female Staff Captain, Explained
Carnival Cruise Line named its first female staff captain this month, and the timeline around that milestone says more than the announcement does. Daniela Gargiulo took the second seat aboard Carnival Adventure on August 5. I break down what a staff captain actually does, why it's the last rung before command, and how Carnival's 2026 first compares to Cunard putting a woman in command back in 2010 and AIDA doing it in 2018. Both are sister brands under the same parent company. Then I get to the number Carnival didn't publish, which is the one that decides whether this is a pipeline or a photo op. I have not sailed Carnival Adventure and I've never met Gargiulo. This is a breakdown of the news, not a review of her.
