Sailing from Whitsundays To Lizard Island - August 1976
We sail from the Whitsunday Islands north to Lizard Island in a shakedown trip to check our yacht's systems prior to heading off to Papua New Guinea and the rest co Melanesia in an extended 15 month cruise. We spent 18 months in Townsville working to save for our next cruising adventure, at the same time exploring the coast from Townsville both up north and down south. Then it was time to start cruising again, but first a couple of months sailing the North Queensland coast to test out some of the modified systems on Dreamtime. We travelled back down to the Whitsunday Islands again, to meet up with Sue's parents and show them around the islands. Then north back to Townsville briefly and on north to Lizard Island. Finally we returned to Cairns to sort out Customs, and depart for Papua New Guinea - The next cruising under sail series. In this sail we stopped at Michaelmas Cay north-east of Cairns where thousands of Sooty Terns were nesting.
