Visby, Sweden… We Had NO IDEA About Its Dark Past!
We had NO IDEA how much dark history was hiding behind the medieval walls of Visby, Sweden! What started as a walk through this remarkable city on the island of Gotland turned into one unexpected discovery after another. Behind the beautiful cobblestone streets and centuries-old buildings, we found stories that completely changed how we looked at Visby. We wandered into the breathtaking roofless ruins of St. Karin's Church, explored St. Mary's Cathedral, and discovered the remarkable history of St. Nicholas Church. But things got even more interesting when we started learning about the Coin House, North Gate, an executioner's neighborhood, and a medieval tower that later became a prison. And some of those stories were much darker than we ever imagined! Of course, there's another side to Visby. We explored the beautiful Botanical Garden, wandered through Fisherman's Alley, discovered the medieval Old Pharmacy, and enjoyed the unexpected encounters and laughs that always seem to happen when we're exploring somewhere new. We arrived aboard Sapphire Princess, but this adventure was all about discovering Visby on our own, experiencing its history, and seeing what was waiting around the next corner.
