Come along and join us as we board the Discovery Princess to sail from Bay of Islands down to Tauranga for the leg 2 of a 14 day cruise around New Zealand and back to Sydney. Tauranga and Mount Maunganui hold a special place for my family. Over the years we’ve spent a lot of time at the Mount watching cruise ships arrive into port — and this time it was our turn to sail in. Sadly, just days before our visit, on 22 January, six people lost their lives in a tragic landslide above the hot pools and campground at Mount Maunganui. It was a sobering reminder of how quickly things can change. This stop was also special for another reason. Tauranga is where I caught up with family and friends to celebrate my early birthday. We spent the day walking around the Mount, enjoying the waterfront, and sharing a lovely lunch together.
