Cruising Alaska on Serenade of the Seas Was an Adventure

We spent 7 nights cruising Alaska on Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas, sailing round-trip from Vancouver through the Inside Passage. Come along for our full Alaska cruise as we visit Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan, explore on our own, drive into the Yukon, encounter bears and find out what happens when fog changes our Glacier Day completely. This was our third trip to Alaska, but we wanted to experience it differently this time. We sailed Serenade of the Seas from Vancouver in August, visited Ketchikan for the first time, rented cars to explore Juneau and Skagway on our own, drove beyond the usual White Pass stops into Canada and the Yukon, finally got to see the salmon running—and had a couple of Alaska wildlife encounters we definitely weren't expecting. We were also keeping an eye on Serenade’s propulsion issue before we boarded. It ended up having no impact on our sailing, but the cruise immediately following ours was ultimately canceled for repairs. And while the propulsion issue didn't change our itinerary, Alaska had other plans. Fog rolled in on Glacier Day and completely changed what we thought that morning was going to look like.
