Santorini Cruise Excursion: Skip the Cable Car & See the Island!
Visiting Santorini on a cruise and worried about the cable car crowds? We found a different way! When our cruise ship arrived in Santorini in July, we were surprised to see a long line for the cable car even at 8:15 in the morning. We also saw a line for the donkeys, while walking up the steep switchbacks in the summer heat wasn't exactly appealing. So instead, we booked a Skip the Cable Car Santorini shore excursion designed specifically for cruise passengers. In this video, we take you along for the entire experience—from our tender to Santorini and boat transfer to the Old Harbor, to the scenic (and slightly nerve-racking!) drive up the famous switchback road. During our approximately 5-hour Santorini cruise excursion, we visited: Oia – Explore the famous whitewashed village, incredible caldera views, blue-domed churches, and iconic windmills. 💙 Santorini Blue-Dome Viewpoint – Our tour company changed this stop from Finikia because of crowds and took us to a fantastic viewpoint in Fira featuring the caldera and the famous Three Bells Church. 🏘️ Megalochori – Walk through one of Santorini's traditional villages and experience a quieter side of the island. 🏖️ Perivolos Black Sand Beach – Relax, have lunch at a beachfront restaurant, and let the kids enjoy Santorini's famous volcanic beach. We paid about $156 per person for the tour and were very pleased with the experience. Our guide was knowledgeable, the transportation was comfortable and air-conditioned, and having the boat and bus transfers handled for us made exploring Santorini on a cruise day much easier. The biggest surprise? Just how crowded Oia was in July. The views were incredible, but the streets were packed. So, is this Santorini cruise excursion worth $156 per person?
