Onboard Aurora Expeditions’ Sylvia Earle: Why Muster Drills Matter
🚨 Before the expedition begins, there’s one important adventure every guest takes part in: the muster drill. Today onboard Aurora Expeditions’ Sylvia Earle, we gathered with the expedition team to learn exactly what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. We located our muster station, practiced putting on our life jackets, identified the emergency whistle and light attached to them, and learned which lifeboat we would report to if ever required. It’s a simple process, but an important one. One of the things I appreciate about expedition cruising is the emphasis on preparation. The goal isn’t to create worry—it’s the opposite. When you know what to do, you can relax and fully enjoy the journey ahead. After all, safety knowledge is one of those things you hope you’ll never need, but you’ll be grateful to have if you ever do. And I have to admit, there’s something especially fitting about doing this onboard a ship named for Dr. Sylvia Earle—the renowned oceanographer, explorer, and ocean advocate whose life’s work has inspired generations to better understand and protect our blue planet. Now that the briefing is complete, it’s time to focus on the reason we’re here: incredible landscapes, wildlife encounters, Zodiac landings, and the spirit of discovery that makes expedition cruising so special.
