Mekong Princess Cruise Day 6 | S‑21, Choeung Ek & Cambodia’s Heartbreaking History
Day 6 of our Mekong Princess Cruise takes us to S‑21, Choeung Ek, and into one of Cambodia’s most heartbreaking chapters of history. These sites reveal the human stories behind the Khmer Rouge era and offer a deeper understanding of the country’s recent past. It was an emotional and important day on our Vietnam–Cambodia river journey. Our morning begins at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S‑21), a former school turned security prison during the Khmer Rouge period. Walking through the grounds provides essential context to this difficult chapter, including the chance to briefly meet survivor Chum Mey. We continue to Choeung Ek, a quiet memorial site dedicated to honouring those who were lost. The peaceful surroundings offer space for reflection and a deeper appreciation of the resilience of the Cambodian people. Back onboard the Mekong Princess, the day concludes with an evening briefing and a traditional performance by children from a local orphanage — a gentle and hopeful close to a sombre but meaningful day. This video is part of our full travel documentary series exploring Vietnam and Cambodia by river — culture, history, and life along the Mekong.
