3 Royal Caribbean Ships You Shouldn’t Overlook

The smartest Royal Caribbean ship to book isn't always the newest one. While everyone's talking about Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, Utopia of the Seas, and Legend of the Seas, three underrated ships — Freedom of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, and Independence of the Seas — can deliver better value depending on your budget, departure port, itinerary, and travel style. None of these are perfect ships, and none will be right for every cruiser. Here's what each one actually offers: Freedom of the Seas — A newly amplified mega-ship experience without the mega-ship price tag. The Perfect Storm waterslides, FlowRider, an expanded adults-only solarium, and an easy Caribbean itinerary lineup out of Miami make it a strong pick for families and first-time cruisers. Grandeur of the Seas — A smaller, more traditional Vision Class ship built for a relaxed pace over a packed activity deck. Fewer crowds, classic glass elevators and ocean views, and shorter, budget-friendly itineraries make it a favorite for couples and repeat cruisers who prioritize the ports over the pool deck. Independence of the Seas — Freedom of the Seas' amplified sister ship, best known for The Blaster water coaster, Perfect Storm slides, and a full-size FlowRider — plus the advantage of being one of the easiest Royal Caribbean ships to reach for UK and European cruisers. A smart option for families chasing big-ship attractions without an Icon-class price tag. This video breaks down what people like about each ship, the most common complaints, what each one does well, who should book it, and who should skip it.
