Bang Tao Beach Clubs Closed: What Happened to Nomad and Maya in Phuket?
Why are so many beach clubs in Bang Tao, Phuket closed? Nomad Beach Club, Maya Beach Club and 14 other businesses were named as part of an investigation into the use of more than 8,000 square metres of beachfront land. When I stayed in Bang Tao earlier this year, these venues were open and this part of the beach looked completely different. I returned in September 2026 to film what remains and compare it with my footage from only a few months ago. In this video, I explain why the businesses were closed, what Phuket authorities say happened and why parts of several venues have now been demolished. Bang Tao Beach itself remains open, with other hotels, restaurants and beach clubs across Bang Tao and Laguna operating normally. I’m now living in Bang Tao, so I will be sharing much more of what life is actually like here, the places I find and, of course, my cruises and travels too.
