Egypt adventure; Land of the Pharaohs
The centrepiece of the 10 day Avalon Waterways holiday was a 4 night Nile cruise on the MS Farah. We flew in to Cairo for a 3 night pre cruise tour of the city. We stayed in the magnificent Marriott Mena House, in the shadow of the pyramids. What a location for breakfast! During our time in Cairo, we took in the Pyramids at Giza, the Sphinx and the Sakkara pyramids. Additionally a tour of the old city and a visit to the Egyptian museum with the stunning Tutankhamen exhibits were included. We then flew to Luxor and after visiting the fantastic Karnak, we embarked on the gorgeous Farah. We were so well looked after on board- nothing was too much trouble. The drinks and canapés each time you returned to the ship were a nice touch. An evening visit to the temple of Luxor and a very strange mummified crocodile museum finished the day off. The following days included visits to the fabulous Valley of the Kings (and Tutankhamen’s crypt), the Colossi of Memnon, the Temple of Horus, Kom Ombo, and finally Aswan. We opted for an optional tour to the sandstone temple of Abu Simbel by plane - one of Egypt’s most cherished ancient wonders. Well worth the extra cost. Our final leg was back in Cairo, where we had a final day of sightseeing (souks and a Nile boat trip) before our trip home. This really was the most amazing holiday. We saw and did so much. Avalon really looked after us (and kept us safe) and we met some fantastic people. Highly recommended. We hope you enjoy our video.
