The Bay of Fundy holds the world's highest tides — and that's just the beginning of 48 hours that no Princess Cruises brochure prepares you for. We're sailing the Enchanted Princess on a New England and Nova Scotia cruise, and this two-port stop turned out to be one of the most surprising 48 hours we've had at sea. Starting in Saint John — Canada's oldest incorporated city — and finishing with a sunset at Peggy's Cove, this is our honest Enchanted Princess port guide for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia: what we actually did, what the ship's shore excursion desk won't volunteer, and what we'd do differently next time. In Saint John, we timed our visit to the Reversing Falls Rapids — the extraordinary point where the Bay of Fundy's record-breaking tidal surge forces the Saint John River to literally reverse direction. It's a genuinely strange thing to watch, and the effect changes completely depending on which state of tide you arrive at (we tell you exactly when to go). From there, we explored the City Market, a working Victorian market trading since 1876 under a roof shaped like an inverted ship's hull, and Area 506 Container Village — a pocket of independent food stalls and local makers that doesn't appear in most Enchanted Princess excursion packages. In Halifax, we spent time at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic's Titanic exhibition — authentic artefacts recovered from the wreck site, and a genuinely affecting hour — before making the 45-minute drive out to Peggy's Cove for an evening that delivered everything it promised. The honest version: both ports reward people who do a little homework rather than following the first organised excursion off the gangway. Peggy's Cove is exactly as beautiful as every photograph suggests, but the crowds thin dramatically after 5pm. We stayed until dusk and the light was extraordinary. The standard Princess shore excursion timing gets this wrong — and we'll tell you precisely why. Have you made it to Peggy's Cove — and did you stay late enough to catch the evening light, or did the tour bus pull you away too soon? 🔔 If you haven't already, please do consider subscribing — it's free and helps the channel a great deal.
