If you’re cruising during hurricane season, don’t just think about how weather could affect your cruise itinerary, think about your flight home, too. A cruise ship returning to port significantly late isn’t common, but weather can cause delays. If I were booking a cruise during hurricane season, I’d avoid an inflexible airline fare and make sure I understood my options for changing my flight if needed. And remember: no change fee doesn’t necessarily mean no additional cost because you may still owe a fare difference. Travel insurance may also help with certain expenses when a weather delay meets the specific terms of your policy. I don’t expect my cruise ship to return late.
