Queen Mary 2 Winter Atlantic Crossing in January Worth It? Day 8 of 8
After eight days at sea with no ports, England finally came into view aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. On Day 8 of our winter transatlantic crossing from New York to Southampton, we wake up to calm water in the English Channel, green water outside our sheltered balcony, and our first real glimpse of land as we pass Land’s End before arriving in Southampton tomorrow. After spending the crossing watching the North Atlantic from this balcony, it was a completely different feeling to finally see England on the horizon. We enjoy one last room-service breakfast, talk about why this sheltered balcony was perfect for a January crossing, and take in the smooth sea conditions as QM2 makes her final approach toward Southampton. Later, we visit Sir Samuel’s for cappuccinos, coffee, roast beef, wild mushroom pâté, carrot cake, an espresso brownie, and a few final bites before the last sea day gets away from us. We also write postcards, browse around the ship, look at Queen Mary 2 memorabilia, and keep working to finish our complete QM2 ship tour.
