Aitutaki Marina: How Sailors Team Up to Moor Each Boat
This is one of the things I love about the cruising life. Sailors who don't even know each other come together as a team to get incoming boats safely tied up in the Aitutaki marina. There's no official organization; it's just the community making it work. The marina is under construction and quite basic. Lines are run ashore and tied to large rocks or concrete blocks, and boats have to fit into tight spots. We all work it out together. We've met so many good people on this journey, and this port of call was no exception. How to prepare for the pass and the mooring (with GPX track): https://youtu.be/Iqwtb_PGniA — We're Steve and Meghan. We're sailing around the world on Some Tuesday, our Lagoon 450S catamaran, with our pugs Colonel Mustard and Mr. Pickles, the first pugs to cross the Pacific on a private sailing yacht. We left Los Angeles in December 2025 on a five-year circumnavigation.
