I Thought Silversea Would Be Celebrity, But Better. It Wasn't.

Celebrity Cruises is my favorite cruise line. So when I booked my first ultra luxury cruise this year, I picked Silversea, partly because Silversea is owned by the Royal Caribbean Group, the same parent company as Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean. I figured it would be Celebrity, but a step up. It wasn't. And this video is my honest attempt to explain why. I'm Elite Plus with Celebrity Cruises with eighteen-plus sailings, and I've sailed Silversea exactly once, so I say that up front. What I do here is break luxury down into four things that actually matter when you're standing on the ship: does anybody know who you are, can you predict what you're going to get, what happens when something goes wrong, and how does the ship itself hold up. Along the way I compare Celebrity Millennium, Celebrity Xcel, and the Retreat against Silversea's Silver Muse: service, food, problem handling, ship condition. I give Silversea full credit on the three things they do better than Celebrity, because a couple of them aren't close. I pay my own way on every cruise.
