We Visited a Tiny French Island Off Newfoundland on Our Cruise
This morning we woke up in France, just off Canada's coast, in St. Pierre and Miquelon. Jill was born in Newfoundland and has heard about these islands her whole life, but she had never made it across the water until now. We jump on a school bus (our second of the cruise), then a little boat to Sailor’s Island for a guided walk through a community that once had 600 sailors. Then we walk into town looking for a café, and we’re honest about how that went: closed doors, a €22 Caesar salad, and a croissant line we couldn’t face. Back on the ship, Jerry finds his first dive-in burger of the cruise, the world’s saddest poutine, a lost room key, and an orange night that feels a bit different from the last time we saw one.
