Our last half-day in St. John’s started with a very steep hill, a lot of sweat, and a museum that wasn’t open yet! But as the locals say, if you don’t like the weather, just wait 10 minutes, and the fog gives way to sunshine. Then Jill’s book club at sea became a book club on land: we meet the author of Ship Moms, Jen Windsor, at Breakwater Books, and a CBC Radio crew turns up too. Next, a gang of Canucklings gets screeched in at Trapper John’s on George Street (with a fine speech, a bit of baloney, and a very enthusiastic “throw it in!”), before we sail out through the Narrows with people waving from porches and Signal Hill. We also review the room service chicken nuggets, spot dolphins, defend a piano player, and get confused by yet another 30-minute time change on the way to France.
