Our Classic Veranda Suite onboard Silver Shadow One of the things we were most looking forward to on our first Silversea experience was seeing what the accommodation would be like, and we have to say, we absolutely loved our Classic Veranda Suite. We were in Suite 504, and from the moment we walked in, we loved the layout, the décor and the overall feel of the room. It had that lovely, understated elegance that we think suits Silver Shadow so well. The colour scheme was right up our street, and everything felt warm, welcoming and homely rather than overly modern or flashy. At approximately 345 sq ft (32 m²), including a 60 sq ft (6 m²) veranda, it felt like a proper suite with a really good amount of living space. There was a comfortable seating area, a good-sized bed, plenty of storage with a walk-in wardrobe, a dressing area and a desk. The layout worked really well, with enough room to unpack, relax and actually enjoy spending time in the suite rather than feeling as though you were simply sleeping there. Honestly, one of our favourite parts of the suite was the bathroom. The marble finish looked stunning, and having a double vanity, a full-sized bath and a separate shower made such a difference. It felt spacious, beautifully appointed and, importantly, spotlessly clean. The housekeeping throughout our stay was excellent, and the suite was always presented beautifully. Of course, having your own private veranda is a huge part of the appeal. Those floor-to-ceiling glass doors let so much light into the room, and there is nothing quite like opening them up, stepping outside and watching the world go by as you sail. If we had one little criticism, it would be the veranda furniture. We felt it could have been a better quality, or at the very least had some padded cushions. A private balcony is such a lovely part of the experience, particularly on a ship like Silver Shadow, and more comfortable furniture would have made it even better. We also had some issues with early-morning mechanical noise in our particular suite, along with the air conditioning, which did affect our experience. We reported these concerns during the voyage, so it is worth mentioning that our comments about the suite itself are separate from those issues. We absolutely loved the space and layout, but we do think cabin location is something worth considering when booking. One of the things that really stood out to us about Silver Shadow is that she proves you don’t necessarily need a huge, flashy, brand-new ship to deliver a wonderful luxury cruise. At around 28,000 gross tonnes and carrying fewer than 400 guests, she has a much more intimate feel, and we genuinely think the older ship has a charm of her own. Sometimes bigger and brasher isn’t always better. Overall, we thought our Classic Veranda Suite was beautiful. The size, the layout, the bathroom, the storage and the lovely décor all made it feel like a proper home away from home. It was beautifully clean, well appointed and somewhere we genuinely loved spending time. And with our butler Jacob looking after us so thoughtfully, the whole experience felt even more special. Silver Shadow might be one of the older ladies of the Silversea fleet, but she certainly still has plenty to offer. We would happily sail on her again, and we’re now rather curious to see how the newer, slightly larger Silver Nova and Silver Ray compare. @silversea #explore #travel #holiday #travelvlog #cruiselife #views #caviar #champagne #suite #suitetour #cabin #cabintour #cruise #butler #luxury #luxurytravel #review #balcony #bathroom #veranda
