Five reasons I became a travel agent, even though I don't really book for other people. I was already cruising every four to six weeks, and somebody was getting the commission on all those trips, so why not me instead of the cruise line? Agent rates are the second, since cruise lines and hotels put out special fares just for agents. Friends and family rates are the third (not guaranteed, but when they hit, they hit, and that's how 16 of my family members cruised with me last summer and saved $650). Ship tours are the fourth, especially on the new ships. And the fifth is finally understanding how it all works: deck plans, price drops, what travel insurance really covers.
