A Japan Region Few Travellers Know Yet | Japan Travel Guide | Tourism Expo Japan | Nonoka & Clara
Exclusive interview with Nonoka Nagai, Assistant Manager, and Clara Tinland at Fukui Prefectural Tourism Federation. In this interview, Nonoka Nagai and Clara Tinland from the Fukui Prefectural Tourism Federation explain how Fukui, a region of Japan that is not yet well known internationally, is building awareness and aiming to become a new destination in Japan. Key Highlights: 1. They say Fukui is not yet well known internationally and is near the bottom for overnight stays, so their main strategy is to get known outside Japan. 2. They say they work at several levels of the tourism industry. They hold meetings on MICE and incentive tourism, and also welcome individual travellers, groups and families. At their booth they invite families to discover Fukui. 3. They describe Fukui as a Zen sanctuary with great outdoor activities and many sake breweries. For families, they say it has one of the largest dinosaur museums in the world. 4. They explain that as a destination marketing organisation (DMO), they go to events in Japan and abroad to meet travel agencies and airlines, exchange business cards and make first contacts. 5. They say they then connect local agencies and service providers with these international companies, so Fukui becomes known. 6. They say their aim is to make Fukui a new destination in Japan, mostly for people who have already visited Japan and want something new and a bit different.
