Shark night!
Shark Night at Capt Steve's Aquarium! 🦈 Underwater lights on, and the lagoon comes to us. Anchored in north Fakarava near Rotoava village in early June 2026, we switched on Some Tuesday's underwater lights after dark. Small fish swarm to the blue glow, and the sharks come for the fish. Feet stayed OUT of the water that night. It just seemed like maybe not a good idea. :-) Fakarava's northern pass, Garuae, is the largest pass in French Polynesia, about 1.4 km wide, and its waters are known for rays, mantas, barracuda, groupers, turtles and dolphins. The atoll sits about 450 km northeast of Tahiti, and the Pōmare dynasty that went on to rule Tahiti traces its origins here.
