**BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!** Captain Steve and First Mate Meg are absolutely thrilled to be live again and cannot wait to see all our old livestream friends. After nearly six weeks exploring the paradise of Tonga, we are finally weighing anchor and sailing almost due west on our **final passage across the Dangerous Middle**. **Departure:** Pangai, Ha’apai Group, Tonga **Destination:** Savusavu, Fiji **Distance:** 405 nautical miles **Expected duration:** 3–4 days This is the last open-ocean stretch of the classic South Pacific “Dangerous Middle” — the long, reef-strewn run that has tested generations of cruisers between French Polynesia and Fiji. We are heading almost due west into the heart of Fiji’s 330+ islands. **Livestream schedule:** We will be live starting at 8am Monday Oct 19 while we leave Pangai and sail offshore (that's noon on Sunday, October 18 in LA and 3pm in New York). The stream will end once we reach approximately 12 nautical miles out, when the expensive Starlink maritime fees kick in. We will restart the livestream when we get within 12 nm of Fiji — roughly 60–70 hours later — so you can join us for the final approach, reef navigation, and arrival. **What comes next in Fiji:** We will spend cyclone season (until April 2027) based at **Vuda Marina** near Nadi — one of the best-designed hurricane holes in the South Pacific, with dedicated cyclone pits and strong protection. From there we plan to explore as much of Fiji’s vast archipelago as we can: the Mamanucas, Yasawas, the remote Lau Group, and more. Clearing into Fiji means the full formalities — quarantine, customs, immigration, and biosecurity — before we can go anywhere. Once cleared, one of the great joys of Fijian cruising is the traditional **sevusevu** ceremony. When you want to visit a village, you bring a bundle of kava root (waka) as a gift of respect to the turaga ni koro (village headman) or chief. The root is formally accepted, kava is prepared and shared from the tanoa (bowl) in coconut-shell bilos, and you are welcomed as a guest rather than a stranger. It is a beautiful, quiet, and deeply meaningful ritual that opens the door to the rest of village life. Tonga has been unforgettable — whales, turquoise lagoons, friendly people, and pure island time. Now it is time for the next chapter. Fiji is calling, and we are so excited to share the passage, the arrival, and the months ahead with all of you who have been sailing with us from the start. **Come hang out, say hello, and sail the final miles of the Dangerous Middle with us.** Track our live position: https://www.sometuesday.com/whereissometuesday Support the adventure: • Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/cw/SailingSomeTuesday • Buy us a coffee / sundowner: https://buymeacoffee.com/sometuesday Follow daily stories: @sailingsometuesday & @meghan_fabulous on Instagram Hit Subscribe and turn on notifications so you never miss the next stream or episode.
