What a wonderful surprise Cartagena, Spain, turned out to be! We had pouring rain when Island Princess arrived, but by the time we went ashore, the sun was shining. And our day ended with something I had never seen before — a real submarine in the water! Hi there! This is Allison with Let's Go! Travel Tips! Today is October 19, 2026, Cruise Date 14 of our 50-day Grand Mediterranean Odyssey aboard Princess Cruises' Island Princess. We're sharing our day in Cartagena, Spain, along with some helpful tips for anyone planning to visit this lovely cruise port. One of the best things about Cartagena is how convenient it is to explore independently. You can walk from the cruise ship into town without needing a shuttle or taxi. There are beautiful streets, interesting shops, places to enjoy tapas, and so much history. We're also talking about the Roman Theatre and its museum. Although they're normally closed on Mondays, they were open during our Monday port visit. It's a good reminder to check attraction hours carefully, because special cruise ship schedules sometimes make a difference. We especially enjoyed wandering down the side streets, seeing local people going about their day, and supporting a local artisan who was selling beautiful handmade items. And then, during sailaway, Gordon spotted what appeared to be a submarine periscope in the water. We watched as more of the submarine became visible. What an extraordinary way to end the day! We're also talking about entertainment aboard Island Princess — the live music, the house band, the Wheelhouse Bar, the Piazza, production shows, and all the activities available on sea days.
