A California woman has filed a maritime lawsuit against Carnival Cruise Line, alleging she was served at least 11 drinks in about four hours while playing slots in the casino aboard Carnival Celebration, then collapsed and suffered a traumatic brain injury. The suit claims negligent over-service of alcohol, failure to warn, and negligent medical care. Carnival has not publicly responded to the allegations. This follows an April 2026 Miami federal jury verdict of $300,000 against Carnival in a similar over-service case involving Carnival Radiance. Carnival is appealing that verdict. Carnival's CHEERS! beverage program rules limit guests to one drink at a time, no doubles, and 15 drinks per 24 hours, and allow crew to refuse service to visibly impaired guests.
