This was our final stop on a 14-night Ambassador Ambience Norway Cruise, and while Harstad isn’t a regular on cruise itineraries, we discovered it’s full of quiet charm, history, and authentic Norwegian life. With most cruise excursions sold out, we set off on our own DIY walking tour — from the Harstad cruise pier to Trondenes Historical Centre and Trondenes Church, the world’s northernmost surviving medieval stone building. Along the way, we found quirky coastal seating, beautiful boardwalks, thought-provoking WWII history, and even a few surprises (including a fantastic bakery and a free art gallery!).
