Seibu Prince Hotels Grew to 100 Hotels | Japan Hotel Investment | IHIF Asia 2026 | Jeremy Gillet
In this interview with Travel And Tour World at IHIF Asia 2026, Jeremy Gillet, Managing Officer Development at Seibu Prince Hotels & Resorts, discusses the company's growth through the Ace Group International acquisition, its Japan and Asia expansion strategy, and plans for its first Bangkok luxury hotel. Key highlights: 1. Jeremy Gillett, originally from Belgium, has lived in Japan for 22 years and has worked with Prince Hotels for the last 10 years, leading development in Japan and overseas. 2. He led two major M&A transactions: the acquisition of Staywell Holdings in Australia in 2017, and the acquisition of Ace Group International last year. 3. Under his development leadership, the portfolio has grown from 45 hotels to close to 100 hotels, with plans to expand further. 4. Japan remains the company's core market with 65 hotels, though rising interest rates and challenging construction costs present some risk. 5. Despite these challenges, the company continues to see strong demand for more luxury and upscale hotels in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. 6. The company owns resorts in Hokkaido, as well as properties near Tokyo in Karuizawa and Hakone, which are being redeveloped into luxury products. 7. In Asia, the company is actively expanding in Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, citing strong capital inflows into these markets. 8. Its first major international luxury hotel is planned for Bangkok, targeted for a 2029 opening, developed in partnership with a Japanese construction company. 9. The company's growth strategy centers on new-build hotels to build brand equity, partnering with developers and long-term asset owners, and using relationships with Japanese corporations expanding into overseas hospitality to unlock new regional partnerships.
