Mount Etna & Taormina Sicily An Amazing Cruise Port Day in Italy
Come along with us as we explore Sicily, Italy 🇮🇹 on an incredible cruise port day that takes us from Messina to Mount Etna and beautiful Taormina! Our ship docked in Messina, and from there we headed across eastern Sicily toward Mount Etna, one of the most famous active volcanoes in the world. 🌋 As we climbed higher, the scenery and weather completely changed. By the time we reached the Crateri Silvestri area, we were surrounded by volcanic rock, clouds and fog—a totally different side of Sicily! After exploring Mount Etna, we headed to our second and final stop, Taormina. This beautiful hilltop town overlooks the Ionian Sea and is filled with historic buildings, churches, restaurants, cafés and plenty of shopping. We walked through the historic center, explored Corso Umberto and Piazza Duomo, and got a look at the beautiful Duomo di Taormina. Taormina was definitely more touristy and shopping-focused than we expected, so we'll share our impressions and show you what it was really like visiting during a cruise excursion.
