Maine Cruise Ports: Portland & Bar Harbor | Worth Getting Off the Ship?
Are the US ports on a New England cruise worth getting off the ship for? We spent a day in Portland, Maine (potato doughnuts, Portland Head Light and our first lobster roll) and a day in Bar Harbor, where we rented e-bikes, rode Acadia National Park's carriage roads and had lunch at Jordan Pond House before racing back to the tender. Here's our honest take, including why we wouldn't pick an itinerary for a national park alone, and which port we'd put higher. Next week: the Canadian ports, Saint John (Bay of Fundy) and Halifax. Budget time for getting off the ship. - E-bikes to Acadia are about 7.5 miles each way.
