WE DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE! Lifeboat Launch, Lighthouse Climb & War Graves | France Van Life Week 7
WE EXTENDED THE TRIP! 🇫🇷🚐 Six weeks in France just was not enough, so we added a bonus Week 7! In our Aiutocampers Leisure van 'Lui', we end this French adventure with a lifeboat launch, a 365-step lighthouse climb, and some real history. IN THIS VIDEO: La Cambe German War Cemetery - over 21,200 burials. A very different, moving visit after the Allied sites Bayeux - best Thai food we have had in France! Plus Camping des Bords de l'Aure Barfleur - we caught a real emergency lifeboat launch! Incredible to watch these volunteers race out Gatteville Lighthouse - 75m tall, 365 steps, 12 floors, 52 windows. It is a stone calendar! Legs were jelly after 😂 Querqueville - tea on the massive pink granite breakwater and PLUTO pipeline history Night ferry home to Wales - we did not want the tour to end! VAN: Aiutocampers Leisure van 'Lui' TRIP: Week 7 of our France 2025 campervan tour ROUTE: Normandy coast - La Cambe to Barfleur to Cherbourg La Cambe really made us stop and think. It is stark and simple compared to Bayeux or Colleville, and the visitor centre stories stay with you. Then straight to Bayeux for a curry - perfect contrast! Barfleur was gorgeous - one of France's "Plus Beaux Villages" and we got a sea view pitch. While walking the coast path we saw the lifeboat crew get the call. The speed they launched was unbelievable. Massive respect to the SNSM volunteers. And Gatteville Lighthouse... 365 steps. One for each day of the year! The views from the top are worth the climb, but take it steady if your knees are like ours 😂 📍 PLACES WE VISITED: - La Cambe German Cemetery - largest in Normandy, place of reflection - Bayeux - Municipal Campsite Camping des Bords de l'Aure - Barfleur - stunning harbour village with active SNSM lifeboat station - Phare de Gatteville - 2nd tallest lighthouse in France - Digue de Querqueville - PLUTO pipeline site & breakwater walk 💰 BUDGET TIP: Bayeux Municipal is brilliant value and walkable to town. Barfleur aire has sea views for free - but get there early in summer!
