Dominica is not what most people expect from the Caribbean. During our Caribbean Princess cruise with Princess Cruises, we spent one day exploring Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, Roseau, rainforest roads, Hurricane Maria's impact, and a side of the Caribbean that goes far beyond beaches. Our Dominica cruise stop begins with an island tour led by Corey, our guide, and Joseph Smith, our driver. Along the way, we see the MV Addie K and learn how Hurricane Maria affected the island before continuing into Dominica's mountainous interior. Known as the Nature Island, Dominica feels very different from the beach-first image many travelers have of the Caribbean. The landscape is filled with mountains, rainforest, rivers, waterfalls, hot springs, volcanic terrain, and Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At Emerald Pool, we hike through the rainforest and swim in the cold but refreshing water beneath the waterfall. We also encounter a cultural performance connected to the island's Indigenous Kalinago heritage before continuing along steep, narrow mountain roads. Our tour then takes us to Trafalgar Falls, one of the island's best-known natural attractions. Along the route, we also learn about Dominica's geology, energy production, the Boiling Lake cable car project, the Botanic Gardens, and Roseau, the capital. Rather than presenting a complete Dominica travel guide, this cruise vlog shows what one day on the Nature Island actually felt like—from waterfalls and rainforest to history, recovery, culture, and the people who guided us through it. Dominica is not just another Caribbean beach day. It is an island that defies expectations. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 Dominica Defies Expectations 00:40 Addie K and Hurricane Maria 01:20 Dominica Island Tour Preview 02:01 Hiking Through the Rainforest to Emerald Pool 04:28 Swimming at Emerald Pool 05:09 Kalinago Cultural Performance 05:53 Rainforest, Boiling Lake and the Cable Car Project 07:23 Driving Dominica's Mountain Roads 08:15 Hiking to Trafalgar Falls 09:04 Trafalgar Falls 10:00 Dominica's Geology, Energy and Landscape 12:35 Roseau and Final Thoughts 13:20 How to Say "Dominica" ▶️ CONTINUE THE SOUTHERN CARIBBEAN SERIES Next stop—Grenada: We Asked a Local Driver to Show Us the REAL Grenada! https://youtu.be/ExSjcpFbPyw Should You Leave the Cruise Port in Barbados? https://youtu.be/lBiSI8ILbUk Perfect Day at CocoCay — Ultimate Island Adventure: https://youtu.be/gKH4PDFWNHs Our Grand Princess Day in Tortola: https://youtu.be/ezwwXm6GIXg Watch the complete Cruise Stops playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL19hwc-AEsRZXajdxlmSOnpKQKNFVjboG 🌴 PLANNING A DOMINICA CRUISE STOP?
