Cape Breton Travel Guide: Exploring Sydney Nova Scotia & Governors Pub & Eatery
We stopped at the Port of Sydney, Nova Scotia, and walked around the area. Across the way, in DesBarres Park, we find a statue of J.F.W. DesBarres — cartographer, military officer, and Cape Breton's first lieutenant-governor, who laid out the original plan of Sydney in 1785. Close by, we stopped for lunch at Governors Pub & Eatery, a local staple on Charlotte Street. Here, we got Lobster rolls, a whole steamed lobster, and hand-cut fries, enjoying the straight-forward Maritime specialties. After lunch, we visited Wentworth Park — Sydney's oldest park, established in 1786, just one year after the city itself was founded. The park is built around Wentworth Creek, which forms a series of interconnected ponds running through 14 and a half acres, right in the heart of the city.
